Should I Upload Unfinished Work?
I’ve heard, watched, and read about individuals telling other individuals to start posting things.
It doesn’t matter if it’s finished, they said. Don’t perfect it, they said. Upload WIP (Work In Progress), they said.
Gary Vaynerchuk is one of these individuals, that tells people to upload things, and upload them a lot. Whether it’s a video, a piece of work, or a blog post, you are supposed to share and document your progress. Apparently people enjoy watching other people’s progress. Whether it’s a success, or a failure. Upload and document your journey. How many vloggers to you watch on YouTube? Pretty much the same idea, except instead of skating around on your Boosted board like Casey Neistat, you are doing you.
Asking an artist to upload unfinished work is … well… HORROR, especially if said artist is a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist is not a good thing, no matter which way you look at it. It slows down your progress and growth as an artist, no matter which way you turn it. Stop being precious! There is a difference between “finished” and “perfect”. It will never be perfect. I guarantee that you can always go back to a piece of work and think you can improve it. If not, you may need to go back to learning things 😉
So, I haven’t decided how far my documenting will go. Yes, I will have blog posts, although I’ve considered vlogs instead -this is likely going to happen, since writing and I aren’t great friends. I was also considering streaming while I work on my art, music, and who knows where this crazy train will go.
I’ll keep you guys posted on where we go from here, in the next week or two. Let me know in the comments or on socials what you guys think about this. Are you one of these hip peeps that are already doing this? How is it working out for you?
